March 2017 Update

Hi All,

Well, it’s been a while since my last post. Christmas has come and gone and so has the New Year. The Gas Pump gig every Saturday afternoon is going great. We’re coming up to our 7th year anniversary in April!

I have taken a bit of hiatus from playing for the last 6 weeks. It’s been nice, but am ready to get back after it. I will be back to the Saturday jam March 25. I took a break from teaching also and go back to that March 20. A special shout out to Greg Russell for filling in my Drum duties at the Gas Pump.

I have been working with a new Drum technique for the last little while also. It will allow me to play without stressing my whole body as much. Hard to learn a new way to play after all these years. It’s called OGS (old guy shit). I think it’s Gods way of teaching me patience. :-)

Still recording. The Pineapple Song is done and is up on the site. Hope you enjoy. My wife calls it a ‘whimsical’ little tune. Working on a couple of other tunes. One comes from a Drum groove and the other is from a Guitar riff I have been messing with.

Just want to say a special hello to everyone at the Gas Pump, both players and regulars that come down every Saturday to make it happen. It has become my wife’s and myself social circle as well as my musical outlet. Hey Mike, you the man! Thanks for hosting all these years and being a good friend. That’s an update.

October 2016 Update

Hi All,

Well, another summer has come and gone. It was very good from a weather point of view. It rained a lot, but mainly at night. The days were sunny and warm!

Teaching slows down in the summer so I had a lot more time for recording and practising. Finished ‘The Pineapple Song’. Look for it here soon. Working on four other original tunes. Three are based on drum grooves while the fourth is based on a Guitar lick I have been messing around with.

The Gas Pump Jam was a little different this year. We had a few different people hosting as well as both myself and Warren. It’s always exciting to gig with other players and play some different material.

KickbacK is currently trying to get back on a rehearsal schedule. We have all been busy with other projects this year and haven’t had much time to get together.

Just finished the annual ‘Women of Song’ Breast Cancer fundraiser. It’s always fantastic to see Edmonton’s Blues and R&B community get together to support such a worthy cause. It’s also where you will see some of Edmonton’s most experienced and skilled singers and players. It was another rousing success!

That’s an update, talk to you again soon!
Cheers,
Ray
