February 2020
Hi All,
It’s a new year and I’m looking forward to it. I don’t know why but I’m feeling positive about this year. It’s my fifth year of teaching Drums and Guitar at Resonate Music School. Doesn’t seem that long!
Still playing the jam session at The Leaf Bar and Grill. I’m currently taking two months off from the jam. I have been doing Saturday afternoon jams for almost 10 years and decided it was time for a break. I expect to be back at the jam when I get back from Mexico early in April.
Howard and I are just putting the finishing touches on a new song called ‘The Avocado Man.’ It’s a song about a student of mine who brings me an Avocado every lesson. He said, ‘Your too skinny and need to eat more fat!’lol.
Thomas Alexander and the Fusion Experience is playing a couple of gigs this week. The Grey Men (my band) is currently looking for a Bass player. I try to play 2 or 3 times a week and have been true to that so far. Teaching has allowed me to practice almost every day so that is a good thing.
Teresia and I are off to Mexico again this year. We have gotten into the habit of going to The Jazz Fest in Puerto Vallarta in late March. I got a chance to jam with county band, a classic rock band and a jazz band last year. There’s lots of good players there and the are always willing to give me chance to jam.
Talk to ya’ll again soon!
October 2019
Hi All,
Wow!! It’s been a while since I have updated. Been doing lots of drumming and with 3 different bands. The Grey Men haven’t done any gigs this year but I have been doing more writing. I have 3 different songs on the go right now. Check out my latest song called Something Funky. It is an instrumental tune and my brother Webb helped out by playing Bass on this song.
Thomas Alexander and the Fusion Experience is going well and we just recently played a very successful gig featuring our band and another band. It was a gig at a community hall and it was a packed house! Most of the bands I have played with are trios, so playing in this band is unusual for me cause it’s a six piece band. What’s also nice is that I’m not the lead singer! It’s a lot easier just playing drums.
The Support Group is the name of the band that I gig with on Saturday afternoons. We’ve been doing the Saturday Jam at a club called The Leaf for a couple of years now. It has been great and it’s nice to have somewhere to play on a weekly basis. We have become part of a little community there.
The biggest thing that happened to me this year is that I turned 65 years old in September. I’m a certifiable ‘old guy’ now. I am very thankful to be healthy enough to still be able to play and sing at a high level. I think that what helps me is the teaching. I have been teaching drums and guitar at a place called Resonate Music School for the last few years.
Got some Halloween and Christmas gigs coming up so that should be fun.
Can’t believe I’m 65. Never thought I would make it this far! lol.
